Having fun fundraising for Alfie's helmet

From that day onwards me and my family started coming up with ideas how to raise the funds to pay for Alfie's Timband. I don't think I slept for more than two hours at a time for the next few nights thinking about it. A friend who's son also wore a Timband suggested contacting a charity called http://www.headstart4babies.co.uk/. So that was first on my list I emailed them and they replied asking me to fill in the form they sent me and return it asap, this was to assess our financial situation for them to see if they could contribute towards the cost.

Mean while my brother Shaun Pilkington created a "Please help Alfie page" on facebook. It told people about his condition and what was required to treat it etc: http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Please-Help-Alfie/231663483630806. He attached links to Alfie's clinic, his just giving charity, my paypal account and alot more. Please take a look by clicking on the link.

My sister in-law Ella Pilkington arranged a sponsored walk round Ogden water: http://www.ogdenwater.org.uk/ for Alfie's brother "Oliver 2 year old" and his cousins "William 3, Archie 2 and Thomas 1.

I work for the NHS in a local hospital as a Theatre Practitioner, I contacted my manager who is also a friend explaining that we was trying to raise funds for Alfie. My colleagues organised a fundraising day for Alfie where staff cooked & baked then sold staff there dinners and the funds went to Alfie. They also did a collection. The ENT department at work donated the funds from there Christmas raffle towards Alfie Timband which was great too.

The main event we organised was a "Charity fun day for Alfie", this did take a lot of time and effort to organise by all of our family but was well worth it.

The poster/flyer for Alfie's charity event:

Pellon Social Club is a club where I had hired there room out before for my eldest son's 1st birthday so that was our first thought, we also knew someone who was on the committee. Me and grandma went to speak to them and they were great they let us hire the room free of charge and also donated several raffle prizes aswell as raffle ticket books etc. So the event was booked for Sunday 2nd December although at this point we had a room but that was it. Between us we decided to start inviting professional companies charging £10 per table plus a raffle prize and they could sell there own things and promote there businesses at the same time. By the time we had finished we had at least ten tables which was great. We had: Hamper Creations, KLR designs, Leanns Avon, Emma’s bodyshop, Sweet cotton candy (went down a treat with the kids), Lilli Lous creations and Claires books (all can be found on facebook).

Then we organised a tombola, 2 raffles, face painting (very busy lady) & baby/toy sale.
A company called "colourful characters" (again can be found on facebook) offered to let us use there character costumes which where: Ben Ten, Peppa Pig, Mickey Mouse and Hello Kitty. This really did make the day for the children. We also borrowed a Santa outfit from my nephews school and bought presents for the children and they could visit Santa at a particular time at the event. My brother and friends happily wore the character outfit and Santa suits throughout the event.

Alfie's Grandma and sister in law Kim Duffy did the food which was pie & peas or hotdogs. And friends Gill Booth & Kay Rothery baked cakes and Joanne Gibbs baked some lovely cupcakes.

We designed a poster to advertised the "fun day" and spread them around and the local newspaper came and took the story and also advertised the event.

An event page was opened on facebook inviting friends and family to come along which brought in a lot of friends and families.
